To honor and remember women in the optical industry who have battled breast cancer, the Eye Care About a Cure team will participate in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day event in San Diego, November 9 to 11. The team has committed to raising $8,000 to help find a cure.

Optical Womens Association member Carmen Renschler, formerly of Shamir Insight, will walk 20 miles a day for three days. Between now and November, Ms. Renschler and Christie Walker, editor of LabTalk magazine, will collect the names of women who wish to be honored during the event. These names will appear on a poster to be displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies. Breast cancer survivors who would like to be honored with their name on the poster can send an e-mail to cwalker@framesdata.com with their name spelled the way they wish it to appear on the poster. If you would like to honor a woman in the optical industry who has passed away, you can send her name and address as well.

Ms. Walker is creating 100 special edition bracelets to be given as thank-yous to anyone who donates $50 or more to their team. The Eye Care About a Cure stretch bracelets are handcrafted in rose quartz, sterling silver and pink freshwater pearls with a pink ribbon metal charm.

There are two ways to donate:

Write a check to Breast Cancer 3-Day. Mail the check to: Christie Walker, P.O. Box 1945, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315. Please include your full mailing address so your bracelet and receipt can be mailed to you.
