What’s better than pink sand, crystal blue skies, an endless coastline and enjoying colorful drinks decorated with little umbrellas after a day of soaking in outstanding CE? If you were one of the more than 130 O.D.s who attended Review of Optometry’s Bermuda 2009 conference in July, not much can compare to this unique and unforgettable experience.

Bermuda 2009 attracted a large crowd of more than 130 optometrists who enjoyed the sunny skies and pink sand while earning 14 CE credits during several inspirational course offerings.
From July 16-19, Review of Optometry and SECO International teamed up to host the 5th annual Bermuda conference, an unparalled meeting of clinical excellence held at the beautiful Fairmont Hamilton Princess Resort, one of Bermuda’s premiere destinations. When optometrists weren’t in the classroom, they had even more entertainment options to enjoy this year than ever before, as Bermuda celebrated its 400th anniversary in style.

While there was plenty to see and do, Bermuda 2009 also provided top-notch CE opportunities, including 14 COPE approved CE credits and an array of dynamic courses presented by renowned O.D.s. Bermuda 2009 also was co-chaired by two of the profession’s best and brightest, Tammy Than, O.D., and Paul Karpecki, O.D
.

“What makes this meeting so successful is the atmosphere,” Dr. Karpecki says. “The attendees, the speakers, the Review of Optometry and SECO staffs and the beautiful location create an atmosphere that is unlike any other meeting. The lectures, social events and the entire ambiance allowed the attendees to participate and to enjoy themselves in a relaxed and open environment. The presenters were world-class optometrists who spoke on everything from glaucoma management to anterior segment grand rounds and new innovations in ocular technology. The lectures were set up in an interactive nature allowing attendees the opportunity to share ideas, ask questions and advance education to all present.”

Thursday’s CE lineup started off strong with “Lumps and Bumps: A Beachcomber’s Delight” presented by Dr. Than. The always-popular Jack Schaeffer, O.D., then finished up the CE offerings of the evening with “Contact Lenses, On and Off the Island.” After an evening of good food and fun, it was time for more education, as Dr. Karpecki presented “A Treasure Chest of Technological Innovations In Eye Care” Friday morning. Then, Ron Melton, O.D., and Randall Thomas, O.D., rounded out Friday’s CE offerings with “Neur-o, Neur-o, A Pirate’s Life for Me.” As the CE courses finished up by noon on Friday, meeting attendees had plenty of time to relax and catch some surf and sun.

Saturday got off to an early start once again, as Al Kabat, O.D., presented “Walking the Plank into Lacrimal and Orbit Disorders.” Saturday’s CE offerings ended with a powerhouse presentation, “A Coastline of Controversies in Anterior Segment Disease Management,” which was moderated by Dr. Than and included an impressive panel comprised of Drs. Kabat, Karpecki, Melton and Thomas.  And, Sunday’s CE lineup was equally as impressive, as Drs. Melton and Thomas took to the podium once again to deliver “Therapeutic Drug Update from the Bermuda Triangle,” and Drs. Kabat and Schaeffer joined forces to complete the CE offerings with their presentation, “All Washed Up: Corneal Myths and Misconceptions.”

The unique combination of a glorious backdrop and distinguished CE made Bermuda 2009 an unforgettable experience for everyone who attended. For Review of Optometry’s 2010 Bermuda and Maui CE Conference dates and locations, contact Lois DiDomenico at ldidomenico@jobson.com, or call (610) 492-1018.
