Myopia may be a risk factor for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis (SAC), according to a study in the October 12 online edition of Nature. Researchers in Japan evaluated more than 1,000 subjects, both contact lens wearers and non-contact lens wearers. Among non-contact lens wearers, those with SAC were more myopic than non-allergic individuals. The researchers acknowledge that their study has limitations, but say that their results invite further investigation.

The AOA Paraoptometric Section seeks nominations for the 2008 Paraoptometric of the Year Award. The award, funded courtesy of CIBA Vision, is given annually to the optometric assistant or technician who has made the most outstanding and worthwhile contributions to the profession of optometry, paraoptometry and the general public. The award will be presented June 26, 2008, during Optometrys Meeting in Seattle. Nominations must be received by February 1, 2008.
