Optometrist is the 12th best job in America, according to CNNMoney/PayScale.com’s list of America’s 100 best jobs. Among the perks is “good pay, without the frequent long hours and middle-of-the-night emergency calls.” Median pay is $105,000, top pay is $149,000, and there’s an expected 33.1% in job growth over the next 10 years. The report did note a few of the challenges, particularly the difficulty and cost of an optometry degree and the evening and weekend hours for some optometrists.
The FDA approved Jetrea (ocriplasmin, ThromboGenics) for symptomatic vitreomacular adhesion, making it the first pharmacological agent to be approved for this indication. The recommended dose of Jetrea is a single intravitreal injection of 0.125mg (0.1mL) of the diluted solution administered to the affected eye.

Heavy caffeinated coffee consumption is associated with an increased risk of developing exfoliation glaucoma, according to researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Specifically, people who drink three or more cups of caffeinated coffee a day have a higher risk of developing exfoliation glaucoma or becoming a glaucoma suspect.
