Many young and middle-aged males of Chinese ancestry who are told they have glaucoma may actually be misdiagnosed according to researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

After following a group of 16 such patients for seven years and observing more than 100 others, the investigators suggest that a new syndrome is occurring in the Chinese population.  The condition may look like open-angle glaucoma, but it does not seem to progress to severe vision loss or blindness. Their results were published in the March issue of Ophthalmology.
