Optometrists provide more than two-thirds of primary eye care visits in the United States, and managing patients with acute practice. The most common causes of infectious conjunctivitis, nonherpetic viruses and bacteria, cannot consistently be distinguished on the basis of signs and symptoms alone, demonstrating a role for testing in some cases. Infectious conjunctivitis causes both social and economic burdens for patients and for parents of pediatric patients. Current practice patterns and public health policies may not be entirely evidence-based. Herein, we review the prevalence, burden of conjunctivitis.
